In 1990, during the first Gulf War,
Patsy was in the US Navy and stationed on the island, Diego Garcia. Patsy was a Parachute Rigger 1st Class. One morning while riding her bicycle she was struck by a pickup truck and sustained 'life changing' injuries to both legs. Patsy endured several surgeries requiring screws, plates and rods in her lower legs and ankles. She was left with minimal ROM in both ankles and became overweight and deconditioned.
During the next several years, the once active
Patsy Galbreath became depressed and unhappy due to her physical condition. She gained nearly 100 pounds.
When I met Patsy, I was 'touched' by her concerns and goals. She wanted to perform physical tasks that you and I take for granted; Long walks, jogging, jump rope.
One day, with tears in her eyes she asked, "Skip, do you think I will ever be able to run again?" I said, "Patsy, we will both work hard, and take one step at a time."
Patsy began training at Mt. Baker CrossFit Feb 22nd and trains 4-5 times every week and eats according to Coach Glassman's 'nutrition plan' for CrossFitter's.
I am so thrilled to tell you that Patsy is down 2-4 sizes (she said "depending on where she buys her clothes) to 228 (from a high of 260) and she is now jumping rope ,(one rep at a time) and last week, during the workout, 'Kelly', she jogged for the first time since 1990.
Patsy smiles from her nose to her toes as she exclaims, "I love the compliments I've been getting!!"
